Choral at Cadogan: Anne Boleyn's Songbook

Alamire returns to the Cadogan Hall for a performance of Anne Boleyn's Songbook. Here Alamire explores the finest works in the Songbook by some of the greatest composers of the early 16th century, including Compère, Brumel, Mouton, and Josquin. Performances by Alamire are interspersed with French chansons and instrumental items for lute, harp and voice. The programme concludes with a most haunting setting of O Deathe rock me asleep, not from the Songbook but possibly linked to Anne’s fate while awaiting her execution in the Tower of London.

Alamire returns to the Wanamaker Theatre, Shakespeare's Globe, to explore motets and chansons by the greatest composers of the early 16th century, including Compre, Mouton, Brumel and Josquin, interspersed with French chansons and instrumental items for the lute and harp. Also included is a haunting setting of ‘O death rock me asleep’, the poem, thought by some, to have been written by Anne as she awaited her fate in the Tower of London.

Alamire perform William Byrd's Propers for Christmas Day interspersed with works from the Trinity Carol Roll (from Trinity College, Cambridge) - the earliest source of the English polyphonic carol. The thirteen works in this manuscript include the famous Agincourt Carol, celebrating Henry V's victory over the French in 1415, and the much-loved and performed There is no rose.
